Anthony Petrello has lived the type of life most people only dream about. The Newark, New Jersey native was a math whiz. Plus, he was always willing to do extra work to improve his proficiency in mathematics. Ever since he was a young teenager, people in his neighborhood already knew Anthony Petrello would do something great when he grew up. When he won a full scholarship to Yale to study mathematics, no one was surprised. It gave him the opportunity to study under internationally known mathematician Serge Lang. Petrello went on to earns both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Mathematics from Yale.

After graduating from Yale, most people expected Anthony Petrello to pursue a career in mathematics. Instead he enrolled in Harvard Law School. Within a few years, he earned his Juris Doctor degree, passed the New York bar exam and was hired by internationally known New York law firm Baker & McKenzie in 1979. By 1986 Anthony Petrello had been promoted to the managing partner of the New York office of the firm. He held the position until 1991, when Houston, Texas based oil and gas company Nabors Industries, one of Baker & McKenzie’s most powerful client, offered Petrello the job as their Chief Operating Officer. Anthony Petrello accepted the job.

Nabors Industries is the largest natural gas and geothermal drilling contractor in the world. It was founded in 1968 as Anglo Energy, Limited. Hired as COO in 1991, Anthony Petrello so impressed the company with his intelligence, talent and work ethic, they promoted him to president in 1992. He played such a significant role in the company’s growth, they made him Deputy Chairman in 2003. In 2011 Anthony Petrello became Nabors Industries Chief Executive Officer. He was voted chairman of the company’s board of directors in 2012.

In addition to the incredible work he does with Nabors Industries, Anthony Petrello also lends some of his time, talent and energy to several other companies. He is director of both Hilcorp Energy Company as well as Stewart & Stevenson LLC. He helped them with their operating functions, as well as providing strategic planning initiative, plus direction which enables the companies to adapt to their dynamic competitive environment and prosper. Petrello is also the director of He’s also the director of Texas Children’s Hospital.

When Anthony Petrello’s daughter Carena was born prematurely and diagnosed with periventricular leukomalacia, he donated $7 million and raised hundreds of millions for the Texas Children’s Hospital to build the Jan and Dan Duncan Neurological Research Institute. The center offers treatment for children with neurological disorders. Petrello is also on the Texas Children’s Hospital’s Board of Trustees and an advocate for support of children’s health issues.
